Student Testimonials
I can't say enough about this program. It was a wonderful mixture of hands on learning in the field, thoughtful knowledge sharing and various unique perspectives on plant medicine from the incredible guest teachers. The Hawthorn School is all that I was looking for and more & has set the bar very high for my continued herbal education.

Sean's course brought me into so many different landscapes of the PNW - meadows, marshes, mountains, riverbeds - it was a beautiful and amazing way to get intimate with the plants and different topographies around me. I feel more intimately connected with nature and my surroundings, feeling more grounded and grateful, as a result of working with Sean. I feel so fortunate to have left with so many tinctures and medicines at home at the end of the course.

Sean teaches by introducing students to his close friends. Every plant that he covers is one that he has built a close relationship with over years of study, meditations, and wildcrafting. Classes are held on the beach under Hawthorne trees, between spiky branches of Devil's Club on the spongy forest floor, and in cozy rooms filled with medicine-making supplies. Students learn about specific plants by consuming them and spending time together in dialogue, perhaps before ever learning their names or potential uses. I treasured class days for the friendships I built with plants and humans alike, the deep knowledge of the plants that Sean offered, and the chance to develop my own style of medicine-making and herbalism. Should the opportunity to learn with Sean arise, take it!

Sean's excitement and love for the plants is palpable. His depth and breadth of knowledge, from constituents, to growth habits, to ethical harvesting practices, to uses, preparations, and dosages, is presented comprehensively and with passion. I learned so much at the Hawthorn School, and deeply value the way that Sean's style of teaching presents the plants as friends and beings to get to know and respect,
beings who have so much wisdom to share.

I've learned herbal medicine from several teachers over the last many years. What draws me to Sean is his deep connection and love of the individual plants. This connection flows into his teacher style, creating a space of sincerity and appreciation for the plants. The time I have spent with Sean has directly guided me into deeper relationship with the specific plants we engaged with in class. Sean's knowledge and experience with plant propagation and tending is another cornerstone to his teaching and a very important basis for anyone considering wildcrafting and reciprocity. If the herbalism you seek involves forming a deeper relationship with plants, Sean has many gifts to offer.
