The COVID-19 Pandemic:
Remote and In-Person Options for 2021
To support community safety and adapt to changes brought about by COVID-19, we are offering two inter-connected versions of the program this year--a discounted version that is entirely remote, and an in-person/hybrid option. Students from both programs will have the opportunity to be part of a joint on-line forum where they can share plant experiences, questions, and information. All in-person classes will be held entirely outside (or in covered but well-ventilated outdoor-like structures), and we will all need to wear masks and practice social distancing and good hygiene. Class size will be kept small. Please read more about these two options below.
This program takes the virus very seriously. I am happy to talk with anyone in depth about their questions or concerns around these matters—I want everyone to feel safe and empowered to participate and learn in ways that work for them. Thank you so much, let's all get through this together!

In-Person/Hybrid Option
2020’s program was disrupted in several ways due to the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic early in the year. We missed meeting in-person for several class sessions—because of both state-imposed restrictions and a commitment to keeping our communities safe. Instead of meeting in-person for those Spring months, we recorded lectures out in the field—introducing the plants through video in the garden and the woods. Videos were sent to students along with medicines made from those plants, occasional plant seedlings, and essays that deepened the lecture topics for that month. Later in the program we were able to meet in-person again, outdoors, wearing masks and practicing social distancing.
Luckily, the majority of this program takes place outside where there is good airflow and it is easy to socially distance. Any class that needs to meet under cover can be held in our large open-air barn. For as long as the pandemic persists, we will all have to agree on best safety practices for in-person meeting—including mask-wearing, practicing social distancing, hand-washing and staying home if you have any symptoms or potential exposure—and adhere to these as a community. While we feel confident that the program will be able to meet in-person this year, it is of course possible that things will change. If meeting in-person is not possible for one or more months, those classes will be structured similarly to last year, with video lectures, written materials, and medicines/plants being shipped directly to the students. There will also be an online forum for students to stay connected, share plant experiences and photos, and deepen learning. Register Here. |
Remote Option
For folks who want to participate but know that they do not want to (or cannot) meet in-person, we are also offering a remote learning option for the entirety of the program. Students choosing this option will receive video lectures from the field, written materials, and medicines (and occasional plants) shipped directly to them. They will also be part of the online forum used by students meeting primarily in-person. Tuition will be discounted by half for students choosing this option ($550-900). Students will also need to pay shipping costs for materials being sent to them.
